Chivenor Saw Mill

Individual specifications for bespoke projects whether it be for restoration, construction or everyday requirements.

About

Chivenor Sawmill formerly Lethabys, was taken over in 2012 by the current owner Paul Burge. In the years since the purchase the Sawmill has expanded operations and cuts from the log to machine the wood to individual customers precise specifications for bespoke projects, wether it’s for construction, restoration, local businesses or everyday lengths used for fencing, flooring, decking, cladding, gates, gate posts etc.

Some of the wood coming through the mill includes oak, Douglas- fir, Ash, Beech, Maple, Cedar, Larch, Pine, Redwood, Yew and the list goes on.

Jamie West is a valued member of the team with a wealth of knowledge of wood and has been a sawyer for a number of years. His knowledge also extends to the restoration of furniture.

In recent times wood has been provided by Chivenor Sawmills to supply a customer building his own wood frame house self build project. A world acclaimed artist has had a large supply of our wood personally chosen for use in an art project.

In order to make best use of the byproduct of sawdust from all the wood passing through the sawmill a machine has been devised to make briquettes which offers slow burning fuel for wood burner stoves and open fires alike.

Products

Fencing, garden, decking

We can produce various forms of fencing such as hit and miss fencing and feather edge fencing.
All fencing can be made from a range of materials such as Cedar or Larch which we recommend as it requires no treatment and lasts longer than Tanalised Timber.
We can also produce Posts, Rails, Pales, Garden Gates.

Shingles

Shingles are commonly made out of Cedar or Larch and are used for roofing slates.
They are made with a taper (6inch wide,14inch long 1/2 inch to nothing)
We supply the National Trust for work on listed buildings and also provide shingles for local builders.

Sawdust briquettes

In order to make best use of the byproduct of sawdust from all the wood passing through the sawmill a machine has been devised to make briquettes which offers slow burning fuel for wood burner stoves and open fires alike.

Cladding

This is an example of a Tree House with cladding, showing formal straight edge cladding with an ‘up/down’ effect. We can also achieve Wainy Edge cladding using Ceder or Larch.
Shingles can also be used for cladding on sheds for insulating and can achieve a rustic look wth less maintenance.
